20 Best PS5 Games for Kids

Best PS5 Games for Kids

The rating on most PS5 games excludes children, especially those below 13 years old. However, there’s no reason to exclude your kids from playing games on that shiny new PlayStation, especially if they seem to enjoy gaming titles on the console.

At the same time, you don’t want to expose them to unnecessary gore and adult content, which are a dime a dozen on PS5 nowadays. To help you choose the best games for your kids, I’ve analyzed tons of games on the PS5 library to come up with the best PS5 games for kids.

Many of these games are your regular 13+ games that I think are decent PS5 games for kids, while some are rated “Everyone.” The games cut across every category, from action games with incredibly detailed graphics to addictive games with sloppy graphics. With everything being equal, here are the 20 best PS5 games for kids.

20 Best PS5 Games for Kids

Being a relatively new home console, PS5’s library is still developing. However, there are some excellent PS5 games for kids that you would get. Here are the 20 best PS5 games for kids so far.

1. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

If your kid is old enough to watch Spider-Man, they’re certainly old enough to enjoy the classic game from Insomniac Games. The game is based on the MCU animated movie: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is understandably what popularized Miles Morales. While the game is rated 13+, there are no harmful elements that younger kids shouldn’t see or hear, making it one of the best PS5 games for kids.

2. Marvel’s Avengers

The Avengers movie series from Marvel Studios is quite popular among kids, and that popularity extends to the associated game. Marvel’s Avengers brings back the experiences from the movies, but this time in an interactive format. What’s more, you don’t need to rebuy the game if you bought the PS4 version; log in to your PlayStation account, and you’ll be able to download one of the best PS5 games for kids without paying an extra dime

3. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2

Tetris is the most recognized strategy game ever, and possibly the most popular game of all time. On the other hand, Puyo Puyo is an insanely popular tile-matching game that originated in Japan. Put both together, and you have Puyo Puyo Tetris, which is one of the best strategy PS5 games for kids.

Best PS5 Games for Kids

As you’d expect, Puyo Puyo Tetris combines the tile-matching features of Puyo Puyo with the core features of Tetris to create a mix of the two games. As it’s available on PS5 and most other consoles, you should consider getting a copy to introduce your kids to the old but golden strategy game.

4. Just Dance 2021

Ubisoft released Just Dance 2021 for the PlayStation 5 on November 24, 2020, just a couple of days after releasing it for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The game is pretty simple: mimic whatever the dancer on the screen is doing to progress.

To play Just Dance 2021 on the PS5, you’ll need to connect using the mobile app as the scoring device. However, you can buy the PS4 version and use the PlayStation camera as a scoring device, which is more convenient for kids without a smartphone. If you’re after an activity-based game, Just Dance is undoubtedly one of the best PS5 games for kids.

5. Astro’s Playroom

Astro’s Playroom comes preinstalled on every PS5 console and is designed to show off some of the console’s latest features. The game is free for every user, and while kids may enjoy the experience for a while, it won’t take long before they start to see the limitations of the ASTRO BOT sequel. Since there aren’t that many free games on the console, this might just be one of the best free PS5 games for kids.

6. Bugsnax

While I’m not a fan of this game’s name, the gameplay redeems it, earning it a place on my list of the best PS5 games for kids. The adventure game takes players to Bugsnax, a mysterious island with half-snack-half-bug creatures that you attempt to find and capture. While the game is plenty interesting, it’s only best for kids as it gets boring after a while.

7. Slime Rancher

Slime Rancher seems like an apt name, given the activities you’re expected to carry out in-game. As Beatrix LeBeau, you head over to the Far, Far Range to start the slime ranching business. In the process, you grow crops and explore the relatively new world, which is around a thousand light years away from Earth. If it’s your kids’ kind of game, it’s playable on the PS5!

8. Minecraft

Minecraft hasn’t launched officially for PS5, but the PS4 version is still very much playable on the flagship console. The game needs no introduction, and if your kid is old enough to understand and appreciate the appeal of the game, it would make a fun new game for them.

9. Stardew Valley

Since Stardew Valley hasn’t been released for the PS5 yet, you still can’t buy it from the console directly. To get the game, you’ll have to purchase the PS4 copy before downloading and installing it on your PS5 console. Thankfully, the PS4 version isn’t just playable; it’s one of the best kid-friendly games on the PS5.

The goal is to develop Stardew Valley after inheriting your grandfather’s old farm plot. Buying the PS4 version of the game will grant you access to the PS4, PS5, and PS Vita versions, which is pretty cool if you ask me.

10. Ayo the Clown

Your main character in this game is Ayo, who is, of course, a clown. The ridiculous story and even funnier cast can only fascinate kids, as I can’t imagine myself playing the game for over an hour. If you’re willing to invest some time into the game, however, you’ll notice its appeal, but it’s simply too babyish to captivate anyone except kids.

11. Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway

Kids seem to enjoy watching shows from Nickelodeon endlessly, and it’s only safe to assume that they’ll enjoy Nickelodeon-themed games too. The game’s ESRB E rating is proof that it’s safe for kids of all ages, and the electric gameplay will leave you competing with your kids in kart races.

According to the description on the PlayStation store, the game features over 40 Nickelodeon characters, reuniting your kids with their favorite TV characters. It also features several crew members, tracks, and karts for a one-of-a-kind gaming experience.

12. Autonauts

Autonauts involve traversing planets and creating settlements on uninhabited ones to manage entire worlds using automation. It involves some basic programming, but it’s more fun than challenging, making it a great game for both kids and adults alike. If you’re planning to introduce your kid(s) to coding later on, you can start using this PS5 game.

13. Overcooked: All You Can Eat

This game is the sequel to the original Overcooked title and is every bit as interesting as its older sibling. The game is simple: work alone or with other players to serve as many dishes as you can before the time limit. Kids that love helping out in the kitchen can continue to do so from their PlayStations, thanks to Overcooked: All You Can Eat.

14. Alba: A Wildlife Adventure

If you’re after the best PS5 games for kids in the adventure category, Alba: A Wildlife Adventure should work well for you. The game is rated “E,” making it suitable for all ages, and the gameplay is nothing too serious.

Older kids may find it boring after a little while, but it remains one of the best games for kids that enjoy adventure games on the console. The music is also great, which is another reason why you should try the game.

15. Sackboy: A Big Adventure

The popular PlayStation exclusive, Sackboy, didn’t take long before making its debut on PS5, and as you’d expect, it’s doing pretty well. Playing as Sackboy, you complete several stages while collecting Dreamer Orbs to progress through the game levels. This version of the game features 3D play, as opposed to the previous 2.5D, making it one of the best PS5 games for kids.

16. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

As someone who has been a fan of Crash Bandicoot since it was called Crash Team Racing, this game is unapologetically one of my favorites on the PlayStation. It features many new characters and some exciting adventures, making it a no-brainer buy when shopping for PS5 games for kids.

17. Fall Guys

Fall Guys is an online multiplayer where players control animated characters and compete in a battle royale game with up to 60 players. The last one standing wins, and there are many mini-games to ensure the game is never boring. While Fall Guys might look too childish to you, it’s one of the best PS5 games for kids.

18. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

While Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is rated for children aged ten and older, the rating is exaggerated, and that’s putting it mildly. You can let children of all ages play it without monitoring as long as they’re old enough to hold a PS5 controller; I can’t say the same for most PS5 games.

The game’s gameplay will appeal more to younger children, as it features characters created entirely from Legos. While it’s still interesting to play, kids start to demand something more graphically appealing after age 10.

 19. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’s name aptly captures everything you should expect from it after buying. It features all the characters you’ve come to love on Nickelodeon, from Spongebob Squarepants to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Most characters are playable by default, and there’s both local and online multiplayer, making it one of the best PS5 games for kids.

20. Chicory: A Colorful Tale

Chicory is a pretty colorful game for the PS4 and PS5 that manages to capture the attention of kids and younger adults. The game is set in a coloring book that lets players draw on anything. Players use painting to solve puzzles, explore places, help friends, and save the world, bringing a unique concept to PS5 games for kids.
